Last week's Lottery Trivia Question #6 was:
- In Euro Millions, a player must correctly pick two Lucky Stars, each numbered 1 to 9.
- How many unique Lucky Star combinations are possible?
The Correct Answers are:
- There are 36 unique Lucky Star combinations!
- A EuroMillions player selects 2 Lucky Stars numbered 1 to 9, but the numbers can't be repeated (meaning there are no 1-1, 2-2, ... 9-9 conbinations). One would think, therefore, that there are 9 times 8, or 72, combinations. But since order doesn't matter, we need to eliminate duplicates. Thus, we divide the 72 combinations by 2 to obtain the correct 36 unique combinations!
