Is is Time for a Euro Millions Super Draw?

Expect to see a Euro Millions Super Draw during May 2012

One of the special features of the Euro Millions lottery is the Super Draw. These are named "Super" because the minimum jackpot prize is typically set at €100 million, regardless the level of the previous jackpot.

In these drawings, only the Jackpot prize amount is increased.

What if there is no winner?
What happens to the Super Draw Jackpot prize it there is no jackpot winner depends on the Super Draw designation:
  • Super Draw One means that the jackpot will roll forward to the following drawing; and
  • Super Draw Two means the jackpot prize will be allocated to the winners of the next lowest tier in which there is a winner.
How are these funded?
After every Euro Millions drawing, 50% of the gross ticket revenue is allocated to the Common Prize Fund. Of this, 8.6% is placed in the EuroMillions Reserve Fund (also called the Booster Fund).

When the amount of money in the booster fund is sufficient, it is withdrawn and used for a Super Draw.

On the average, approximately €1million are added to the booster fund after each drawing. This means, it will take about a year for €100 million to accumulate.

To make Super Draws more frequent, the Super Draws are typically designated after the anticipated jackpot reaches €40M to €50M and the booster fund contains the remainder.

Why now?
The last Super Draw was held on October 4, 2011, approximately 6 months ago.

At present, we have calculate the value of the Reserve Fund to be around €57 million, which means that we would expect to see a new Euro Millions Super Draw sometime soon in the month of May 2012 (or whenever the jackpot nears €50 million).

  1. How can euromillions company not doing any superdraw yet? They introduced a two time a week play of the game, people spend their money on each occassion to do that, even though the jackpot increases more than the weekly.they ought to have bring in a superdraw like b4 now.Are they also in reccession? It can be,because the reserved fund is peoples money, they should release it for a superdraw, last one was in oct last year.

  2. Agreed TOPS. It doesn't make sense that they haven't hosted a Superdraw yet. It's almost 4 months since I wrote the above article.

From what I could learn, their argument is that since they added the Match 2 white prize, they don't have the money. But, they have not published a new set of rules stating that they will not be holding superdraws. Plus, when they added this prize, they increased the number of Lucky Stars to cover this expenditure. Which means that they are now getting more revenue and giving out less in prizes.

Remember, they still keep taking out 8.6% of the receipts for the Booster Fund which continues to grow. After the recent run up of jackpot prizes to 190 million, I would estimate that the Booster Fund has at least 100 million euros now.

So my opinion is that they are just trying to take and keep more of your money and not play by their own published rules.

  3. Thanks for your response, the govts in the euro zones should be held accountable for the euromillion company misleading altitude to cover up our money and forgetting that, it was estabilished on published rules and such rules should be updated immediately, should any alterations arise in the procedure which the game is played.if they know that the introduction of march 2 only price will make them not to have money for the superdraw, why haven't they changed the rules of the superdraw by now, since 10th of may,2011,when the first twice a week draw started?
